The broader competitive picture for AI coding tools is moving fast. OpenAI's Codex 2 and Claude Code are both maturing as alternatives. Copilot's IDE integration is still its strongest argument. But billing models that add uncertainty are arguments against, and GitHub is now asking you to weigh that.
