Notion's agents can now work for a full day. The catch is in the credits.

Notion's rebuilt agents run single tasks for up to about 24 hours and pick their own model with a new Auto router that Notion says cuts cost by about 90%. What changed, which plans include agents, and how the new credit system works.

Notion rebuilt its AI agents on October 19. In Notion's words, its agents "can now work on a single task for more than 24 hours, up from five minutes," and they now choose which AI model to use for each step through a new router called Auto. Co-founder Akshay Kothari laid out the changes in a blog post, and the details matter for anyone deciding whether Notion can replace a separate agent tool.

What changed

Long-running tasks. A new "sixth-generation" harness runs each agent session on a dedicated service with a queue, so work survives restarts and a single task can run for roughly a day. Agents also get their own computer and browser, and long conversations are compacted to save context.
Auto model routing. Auto sends each task to the model that best balances quality, speed and cost, and switches models if one stalls. Notion uses models from Anthropic, OpenAI and open-weight providers.
Review for me. A separate model checks whether an action is safe before the agent takes it, a sensible guardrail after this month's agent incidents.
Bring your ChatGPT plan. You can use a ChatGPT Plus, Pro or Go subscription in your personal Notion Agent (not in Custom Agents).

The cost claim, and how to read it

Notion says that across more than 20 common tasks, Auto delivered results similar to Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra at about 90% lower average cost, so credits go roughly ten times further. That is Notion's own benchmark on its own task mix, not an independent result. It is plausible: routing simple steps to cheap models such as GPT-6 Luna is exactly how you cut costs. But treat the 90% as a best case until you see your own usage.

The new credit system applies to new customers now and moves existing customers over on November 2, and Notion says an AI usage dashboard with spending limits and model allowlists is coming soon.

Who should upgrade

If your team already lives in Notion, the Business plan is now a credible way to run multi-step work, such as migrating a task tracker, compiling research or updating databases across connected apps, without adding another agent product. Watch your credit usage for the first month, especially if you pick models manually, since that draws on the smaller Select allowance.
